Cheap(ish) Chinese Blinds and an Amazing time with the local Swamp Harriers
I picked up one of these pop up blinds and tested it out filming New Zealand Swamp Harriers from a distance of about 8-10 meters away. It was really successful and the birds, who are notoriously jumpy, had no idea I was there despite me testing it’s ability to the limits by making more movement than I normally would if I were filming in my other, older hide.
Infectious
Mulling over the pros and cons of meeting likeminded people who mean well but kinda disturb the peace I enjoy when I’m out filming.
But then I feel bad, because I think sometimes it would be nice to collaborate.
Can’t win! lol
Little fluffy clouds
Some beautiful weather lately and some pretty awesome Sunsets and clouds
Long exposures with the DJI Air3s
Testing out long exposure capabilities of the DJI Air3s and photographing the Southern Lights, all in all not too bad an image all things given.
Up close and personal
The joys of sight and sound, how as I get older I become more and more fascinated with the simple pleasures of hearing and seeing animals and birds go about their daily lives
Nuisance Bear
My Feelings about this beautiful film, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2026, and the emotions it awoke in me.
Metamorphis
Cicada season here in NZ and as they morph into their final adult state I was keen to see if I could spend some time capturing this amazing transition.
I kinda failed and I kinda didn’t
Drone…. but not out.
Flying drones without the obstacle avoidance switched on can induce financial stress and pain.
Dear Santa
Dear Santa,
The costs involved in putting together a semi-pro rig for wildlife filmmaking
In pursuit of Perfection
In pursuit of perfection.
After so many failed attempts to find and photograph the New Zealand Falcon I can finally rest easy tonight, to say I am stoked with this find and this image (albeit not the most creative or well lit) would be a gross understatement.
