Black Magic Cameras

Recently I’ve been window shopping for a new film camera. There’s nothing wrong with the Canon R5MKll that I’ve been using and continue to use, but being a little bit of a geek and gear head I’m always intrigued by other kit.

Here in New Zealand it’s not quite so easy to just pop down to the local rental store and try out the latest RED camera or whatever takes your fancy, however we do have Rubber Monkey who rent some cameras and they happen to have the Black Magic Pocket Cinema 6K camera (rolls off the tongue nicely).

I only picked this up yesterday and so I’m not going to gush too much about it as I’m still mucking around with it, but I did shoot a bit of simple footage and really loved the look, more on that in another post perhaps.

As a user of DaVinci Resolve (I started using the free version and upgraded to the full studio version soon afterwards) I was curious about the company and who started it, so I googled it and came across this brilliant interview with Grant Petty the CEO and founder.

Grant comes across and top bloke and his approach to business is really astonishing and quite refreshing.

I highly recommend watching this interview on Youtube.
